The forty-sixth annual convention of the Department of Superintendence of the National Education association, held in Detroit February was of special importance to kindergarten and primary teachers, for there was not only an inspiring in-spiring session of the International Kindergarten Kind-ergarten union, at which the pertinent topic of adjustment of the kindergarten to the grade occupied the entire session, but there was also held the first annual meeting of the new National Council of Primary Kducallon. This organization was formed about a year ago. and its purpose is that uf "stimulating -progress In primary education, especially along the lines of greater use of activities, greater freedom of method, and closer co-operation with the kindergarten and the grades above." Miss Ella Victoria Dobbs, school of education. University of Missouri, Columbus, Co-lumbus, Mo., was chairman at this session ses-sion : and the special topic under discussion dis-cussion was "A Greater I'se of Activities Activi-ties in the Primary Hehool." ANNOUNCEMENTS. The Emerson Parent -Teacher association associ-ation will hold its next meeting in the : Emerson school Monday at 3:45 p. m. The ! time will be devoted to the election of ufficers for 1916-1SU7. The Ensign Parent-Teacher association wdll also hold its next meeting on the same date and at the same hour, at the Ensign school. Supervisor G. N. Child will address the meeting on "Vacation Occupations and Interests." The Franklin Parent-Teacher association associa-tion will hold its next regular meeting at 1 the Franklin school next Thursday evening even-ing at 8 o'clock. Some special dances by the pupils of the school will be a feature of the programme and Supervisor William E. Day will address the meeting on "Physical Education in the Salt Lake Public Schools." Dr. Ashley and others have been invited to address the meeting on the coming clean-up campaign. A choice musical programme has been prepared. pre-pared. At the next regular meeting of the Sumner Parent-Teacher association, which will be held at the Sumner school Monday at 3:45. p. m.. the following programme pro-gramme will be carried out: "Sumner School Song," pupils of the eighth B; song by the first grade children, under the direction of Miss Edith Keate; address, ad-dress, "The School Survey," Superintendent Superin-tendent D. H. Christensen; solo. Miss Beulah White. Preparations are now under way for an open-air programme to be given bv the pupils of the Whittler school on the evening of next Friday at 7 o'clock. This entertainment ts to be given in the form of a May festival, consisting of selected choruses, dancing, drills and music by and enlarged orchestra. A feature will be a portrayal in costume of the seasons and the Important holidays. Decorating material will be furnished by courtesy of the Keith-O'Brien company. Immediately after the programme there will be an exhibit of school work In each room, during the Inspection of which music will be furnished.
