Xl-?-X' The first movement for the erection i of the much-needed hotels which will be added to the city during the next few years ha3 already begun with the starting of work on tho new building now under coarse of construction by .1. J. Daly at the corner of Fourth South and State street and to bo known as tho Moxum building. Tho new building build-ing will bo four stories in height, although al-though tho lower walls will bo so strengthened that a fifth story may be added after, and it is possible that tbo building ma3r be carried up to the full height while undergoing construction. construc-tion. The stmcture will have- a frontage of 132 feet on Fourth South aud of 100 feet on State street. The wholo building will be made of reinforced con- crete finished with rod brick on the two fronts and .with whilo stone trimmings. trim-mings. It will be absolutely fireproof, and in this respect will be unique, being be-ing the first hotel of fireproof construction construc-tion to be erected in the city. Tho cost will be $120,000. Plans for tho new building indicate that it will be one of the most np-to-dato buildings of its kind in the city. Tho lower floor will be devoted to tho use of the hotel offices on the Fourth South side, and the State street side will be used for stores.; The hotel apartments apart-ments proper will be in the upDer stories. stor-ies. Provision will be made for at least ' 120 guests' rooms and the arrangements I for dining large numbers of people will : bo exceptionally good. Parlors and ! various nrivate dining rooms will be ! a feature of the building, and everything every-thing about the appointments .-will be of the" best that .can be obtained. The building will be lighted by electricity and heated by. steam. Thero will bo adequate elevator service and complete arrangements for baths and all the facilities facil-ities which belong to tho appointments of the first-class liosteln. Tho outside- of tho b'uildiug will be unusually handsome, plato glass windows win-dows in the fronts on both streets being be-ing a beautiful featuro of the lower stories. AJthough tho foundation is hardly moro than completed, applica lions for leasing have been rocoived, not only for the stores, but for the hotel as well, and the interest evinced in ithe new building indicates that a now hotel is needed and that there will bo no question of its success.
