Show : 1 i School Picture Award ': I am a little disillusioned at the method the school districts notifies the bidders of the high school portraits that their bid has been rejected, The Weekly Reflex. FURTHER, THE newspaper news-paper was incorrect as you will note on item 18 of my bid :that the total cost to the school .was no charge for the photography pho-tography and the prints. : It appears that the school district is devoid of the fact :that there were five bids requested and that each bid -should be considered on its :own merit. : IT APPEARS that all the fbids were lumped together land then divided between two studios with no reference to rother facts concerning the location of the studios who bid :on the contracts and the distance dis-tance the students must "travel. ; Reference to item 11(c) ;concernmg the purchase of Jfilm. All the schools purchase rthe film and pay to have them 'processed. I am waiting for ,:Davis High School to take "-their film 25 miles, Salt Lake rCity, to have it processed :over-night as required by the :terms of the bid. Jaylynns just xan not give them that service. : Reference to item 11(a) xonceming extra trips to the school. The bid was no charge for taking the pictures. Davis .High has been using the 3',X4i preview photos of jthese group pictures. ; IT WOULD appear that they would continue to do the same, however with an open-ended question as item 11(a) is, Davis High could have the photographer taking everywhere from 10 to 1000 group pictures and requesting a 5X7 of each pose with the ' way die bid is worded. : There is no charge for the photography and the prints (3IX41), however if extra prints are required they would - pay the wholesale price of the print only. : A FINAL word on item 19 of ;the bid. (1). Each student :must go to Salt Lake City during dur-ing the summer for their sitting, sit-ting, pick up the previews, return re-turn the previews, and again if pictures are purchased by the Student. A total of 4 trips, provided everything goes well. : This is a total of 50 miles per Jrip, a total of 200 miles of driving per student. With the -present gas rates, it will cost sach student about $6 to have their picture taken-a total cost of $8,400. By having the portraits taken in Kaysville nd then picked up, returned, etc. in Kaysville, the total cost "might reach $100. Most of the students could walk. (b) THE TOTAL driving to Salt Lake City and return is 480,000 miles. It is highly possible pos-sible with the high number of miles on the road that a student could be killed on the road. Saving the life of just one student is worth keeping them off of the highway. Again, driving on the Kays-ville's Kays-ville's city streets is far safer than the freeways. (c) . All money spent by the student's parents for photographs pho-tographs will remain in Davis County and the additional taxes collected in Davis County is spent in Davis County. Why send the money to Salt Lake City and letting them improve their cities when it can be retained here at home. (D). ALL CALLS made by the students to the Jaylynn studio are long distance, an additional ad-ditional expense for the students if they need to call to change appointments or have questions. Another question I have is if the bid is for a certain, school, why doesn't the school ever see the bids prior to the selection selec-tion of the photographer? It would appear that each school should have something to say about who is going to take their portraits. PERHAPS THE school does, but it seems to be after the fact rather than to make suggestions as to which bid they prefer. A charge of $10 might be better than a no charge bid if the $10, might be in fact a savings in the long-run. long-run. Again, might I say that my bid was no charge. Jack V.
