Show Symphony Wm&s HDp (Gosicecfi Tow From the Utah Symphony's first concert in Holland, Mich., to the final segment of its 7,295 mile tour now in , Wyoming, the orchestra has received standing ovations following concerts presented in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas, South Dakota and Colorado, according accord-ing to Shirl H. Swenson, manager, Utah Symphony. PERFORMING 24 concerts in 23 days, the orchestra presented the remaining concerts con-certs at Gillette, Casper, Saratoga, Lander, Rock Springs and Evanston, Wyo. They returned to Salt Lake City by bus on Tues., May 11. Traveling with the Utah Symphony on one of the long-1 est bus tours, 3,895 miles ever taken by the orchestra-, Mr. Swenson says, "Audiences in each area have accorded the orchestra -With lavish applause, standing ovations and shouts of 'Bravo!' The symphony have earned outstanding press reviews wherever they have performed." FOR EXAMPLE, the Holland Michigan, Evening Sentinel reported, "The Utah Symphony rode out of the West, Monday, and received a standing ovation from area residents attending the concert. con-cert. For the real charm of symphony orchestras is the ability of musicians and conductor con-ductor to achieve in the short span of two hours, a unity of sound and emotional sweep that provides a peak experience for the audience. Such a peak was reached Monday." .1 THE HAWK Eye, in 1 Burlington, Iowa, stated, ' ''Abravanel's exuberance was controlled until a finale which was an example of sheer drive. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! " At Quincey, 111., a Herald-Whig Herald-Whig critic wrote, "The maestro (Abravanel) came back for repeated curtain calls, both at intermission and at the close, receiving standing ovations both times. Acclaim was so sustained that he raised his baton for an encore en-core number." MR. SWENSON adds, "The concert hall in Ames, Iowa, was a particular delight. This outstanding facility is a major stopping place for prestigious symphony orchestras of the world, having engaged such groups as the Philadelphia Orchestra and the London Symphony for week-long visits. The Ames' hall only increases our hope for an early realization of our own " concert hall in Salt Lake." The morning after their return re-turn to Salt Lake, the orchestra orches-tra began recording the symphonic Brahms for Vanguard Van-guard to be released within 18 months. For the remainder of the week, they will alternate the following days between recording sessions and rehearsing for the upcoming Utah SymphonySalt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir series of special Bicentennial concerts. THE DEBUT concert will be performed in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on May 29 with subsequent appearances in Logan, Ogden, Provo, Zion Park and Manti, Utah.
