Show m Police Will Walk The Beat In an attempt to get better communication between police and community the Woods Cross police department depart-ment are starting a program in which the patrolman will actually walk a beat. POLICE CHIEF Niles Stahle pointed out that one of the biggest problems in law enforcement is that of the lack of communication with the public. "We hope this program will give the citizens an opportunity oppor-tunity to talk to the officer, to tell him of any problems in the neighborhood," the chief remarked. THIS IS by no means a new program, walking beat policeman have been around for a long time. But the police department hope the citizens take advantage of the program, which is new to them. Basically the policeman will park his patrol car at the end of a street or in a subdivision sub-division and then will proceed on foot through the area. CITIZENS ARE urged to meet their peace officers, to inform them of any special problems that are occuring in that area. Chief Stahle also pointed out that although not a real problem yet the skateboards are becoming more common. -With the summer weather just around the corner more and more skateboarders will be on the move. The chief would like to remind those people that riding on a city street is illegal. THIS IS one area the citizen can inform the walking policeman, if skateboards are causing a traffic problem, let him know. |
