Show Soil Stewardship "The Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell there in." "MOTHER EARTH" with her streams, rivers and lakes ' provides food and fiber for all -mankind-and the animal kingdom. Soil Stewardship Week, May 23-30 is a special time set aside to think and talk about the importance of soil. Tom Williams, chairman of the Davis Soil Conservation District says, "We should all ponder the importance of soil in our life line and the necessity neces-sity of preserving it and our natural resources. With proper care they are probably adequate to supply our needs but if we waste or let them erode away we will not be ... able to supply our needs."... WE ARE but stewards in the Lord's vineyard. We must use the resources of the vineyard with good conservation conserva-tion practices so that bounteous boun-teous harvests can be enjoyed from generation to generation. genera-tion. The Davis Soil Conservation District has placed 6,000 soil stewardship book markers in our public and high school libraries to help remind us of our stewardship responsibilities. responsibili-ties. WE ALSO hope Church groups will use this theme for talks and discussions during Soil Stewardship Week. Our Bicenennial and the conservation conser-vation practices used by our forefathers back to President George Washington are also appropriate topics. Let's appreciate, protect and enjoy our 'promised land'. |
