Show TGiilQflUG BUllOGt By DAVE WIGHAM Bountiful Council members went over the tentative budget bud-get for the Water and Sewer Departments at their weekly meeting on Wednesday. No action was taken but city officials of-ficials answered any questions ques-tions the council members had in regards to this budget. THE BUDGET itself is in the amount of $743,402, which covers the salaries and all other expenses for the two departments. Biggest item on the budget is the salaries which includes a 7 percent cost of living raise which covers all city employees next year. City Manager Grant Petersen Peter-sen reported to the council that his office had done the research requested by the council in regards to the new police and firemen. He reported that if the city upped the mill levy by 1, and then eliminated one of the tape recorders requested by the police, and used $5,100 for police cars, then the city could hire two new police officers of-ficers and two new firemen. THIS TOPIC has become of great concern to the council. They feel that the police and fire protection in the city' should be one of the best available and upgraded if necessary. The council also voted to drop the case against the Smith Swim School. A district judge had ruled in favor of Mrs. Smith and the city attorney at-torney Layne Forbes wanted to know if the council wanted to appeal the decision to a higher court, but the council elected not to do so. MAYOR SWAPP also informed in-formed the council that he had sent a bouquet of flowers to Miss Marianne Weed, who represented Utah in the Junior Miss Pageant this last week. They noted that the city was proud of Miss Weed, who finished third nationally, and that she should be congratulated congra-tulated on her efforts. THE MAYOR noted that he had received some mail indicating in-dicating that some citizens don't like the name of Bountiful Boun-tiful Boulevard for the city street, the other suggestion that these citizens had was Bountiful Parkway. No action was taken by the council, the mayor just wanted the council to be aware of the situation, dw |
