The leak at the Maeser water tank was located in a 17'2 inch fill pipe and will be replaced as soon as the city can find a replacement section. Cifty puslhes ft repcair lesaks before wssie'er With winter coming on, Vernal City maintenance crews are pushing to repair two major leaks in the water system. A water leak which has recieved a lot of time from the maintenance crew and has taken several weeks to repair is a leak at the Maeser water tank. At first it was suspected that the leak was in the bottom of the tank, but after digging twenty feet down along the side of the tank the leak was located in a fill pipe about five feet outside the tank. "As soon as we find a 17' z inch pipe to replace the broken section we will repair it," said Lyman Merkley, public works director. "But we can't find this size of pipe anywhere in town," he continued con-tinued pointing to the removed damaged damag-ed section of pipe. Another concern to the city is a 50 yard section of the Davis-Naples main water line located south on 1500 West. About 50 yards of pipe has been replaced along the road, but the line has been laid along the surface. "We couldn't bury ihe pipe," said '..'cikiey, "because it is located in quick sand. To prevent the pasture next to the line from sluffing forward, we laid the pipe on the surface." A few individuals feel that the city did a poor job in replacing the line. "This work is really sloppy," said Lyle McKeachnie, Vernal resident. "In the winter the line will freeze, or someone 1 could come by with a 22 and put a hole in it." Merkley said that the exposed line will be covered and that there will be drainage on the road to keep it from deteriorating. "We are really pushing to get these two projects finished before winter," Merkley concluded. f-V :ywY I ;Mj3.!f Jt . ;-' - . j Y- n$ frf l' :,, . l, , ,4' 'h. 'f'H- - -'Y ' f Y-'-j,'.'? iSVv.
