Show Former UHS principal promoted at BYU Dr. Bert Gividen has been named chairman of Conferences and Workshops at Brigham Young University, according to William R. Siddoway, dean of the division. Dr. Gividen will replace Dr. Phillip D. Harris who has been appointed as director of the recently announced Continuing Education conference center to be built at BYU. Dr. Gividen has been serving as a college coordinator for the BYU Division of Continuing Education. He previously was principal of Uintah High School in Vernal, and superintendent superin-tendent of the Wasatch School District in Heber. He has served as a high councilor and held many other leadership positions in the LDS Church. He has been active in numerous educational and civic organizations in Utah and Southern California. Dr. Gividen and his wife, Val, have eight children. As chairman of Conferences and Workshops, Dr. Gividen will oversee a wide variety of university sponsored educational programs for young people and adults. Sports camps, wilderness adventures, youth conferences and scholastic achievement seminars are just part of the department's offerirlgs for young people. The department also assists academic colleges on campus in the development of educational programs designed to meet particular needs in school districts, the community, industry, in-dustry, government, professional organizations, retired persons, and others who have interests in continuing their education. |
