Show A MEDICALLY n. Vemal Family Health Center Obesity clinic i; Nr. I,,;rr Wilrki n Responding to an apparent need in the community, the Vernal Family Health Center, will start a weekly obesity clinic which will run for four weeks. The purpose of the clinic is to teach people about obesity and how to implement imple-ment exercise, dieting, and medication to achieve optimal weight control. A surprising number of people in our community have been going to Salt Lake City, to be treated by an osteopath with diuretics, laxatives, thyroid, and speed. This treatment has resulted in several people being hospitalized for arrhythmias of the heart, nervous disorders, and in one case, an acute psychosis. State authorities, to the best of our knowledge, have closed these clinics at the present time and they are no longer treating patients. The attractiveness of these clinics is a testimonial to the need for an effective effec-tive weight-control program and for this reason, the Vernal Family Health Center, in conjunction with the University Univer-sity of Utah, is planning to respond to , this need. The clinic will begin Nov. 29 at 7:30 in the Uintah County Hosiptal conference room (downstair?) and will be one to one and a half hours' The physiology of fat and how it is stored and broken down, etc. will be explained. ex-plained. A practical, no-nonsense diet will be given. The importance of exercise will be stressed. Also, for compulsive eaters, a new drug has been found to be very effective ef-fective in curbing compulsive eating and will be used. This drug is the only one, at the present time, that has been found to be safe and effective. If interested in joining this clinic, please call the Vernal Family Health Center. The space is limited, but the clinic will conduct a number of these seminars. Call 789-5115. |
