The Utes will host Wrestle Offs, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Hacking is one of six wrestlers who placed in the 1979 State Tournament on this year's team. ft feftft lie Soft wdY The defending 3-A State Wrestling Champions, Uintah High School, will open their 1979-80 tussling season with Wrestle Offs in Vernal, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The captains of the red team will be Kay Smuin and Ken Cobbs. Matt Hacking will be the captain of the white team. Battling for spots on the Uintah varsity team are: 98 pounds, Josh Reynolds, and Brett Brown; 105 pounds, Ron Horrocks, Monte Morris, Keith Campbell and Kendall Goodwin; 112 pounds. Rick Huber, Jeff Good, Curtis Wright, Jon Flannery and Layne Chapman; 119 pounds, Foston Olivers and Keith Larsen; 126 pounds, Cory McNeill and Allen Huber: 132 pounds, Rick Morton, Frank Atwood and Allen Huber; 138 pounds. Matt Hacking and Mark Robb; 145 pounds, Randy Smuin, David Perry and Wayne Nichols; 155 pounds, Raymond Perry, Kim Reid; 167 pounds, Kay Smuin and Billy Bedell; 185 pounds, Brent Hales, Don Bohrer, Art Daley and Guy Childs; heavyweight, Ken Cobbs. Kay Smuin, Ken Cobbs, and Matt Hacking ate the Uintah captains this year. "Most everyone on the team will have a match in Wrestle Offs," stated Uintah coach, Chuck Henry. The Uintah Utes tusslers have been practicing for a week and two-a-days will be held on Thursday and Friday. "A lot of wrestlers are running two miles every morning," stated Henry. "We are starting to look a little better shapewise, but we are not in the shape we would like to be. Season tickets and pocket schedules will be available at the door. People who don't have a schedule for their store window should contact Chuck Henry. Josh Reynolds, 9, first; Ken Cobbs, heavyweight, second; Matt Hacking, 138, third; Kay Smuin, 155, third; Rick Huber, 112, sixth and Raymond Perry, 145, sixth at the state tournament return to the Uintah team. "Matt Hacking is looking real good. He is going to be a super wrestler. He will be worth the money each time. Kenny Cobbs will always give everyone an exciting match. Kay Smuin will be a real leader this year. Kay has been a leader every year. Since this year he is a senior I expect a super year," said Chuck Henry. Seniors, Ron Horrocks. Billy Bedell, Foston Chivers, David Perry, Raymond Perry, Kim Reid, and Art Daley are doing a good job. I expect a great deal of leadership from the seniors." Henry added, "We have a good junior class of wrestlers in Brett Brown, Josh Reynolds. Monte Morris, Cory McNeill, Frank Atwood, Rick Huber, Allen Huber, Mark Robb, Wayne Nichols, Brent Hales and Don Bohrer. We have some good sophomore wrestlers. The sophomores could help us in a lot of weights. There could be two or three sophomores on the first team at one time, which hasn't been done in a long time." Losers in Wrestle Offs will take part in the Union Tournament in Roosevelt, Tuesday. Teams that will compete in the meet are: Union, Lehi, Wasatch, Morgan, Manti, Roy, Uintah's second team and North Sanpete. Uintah's varsity team will compete in the Steamboat Springs Tournament, November 30 and December 1. The Utes will be going after their fifth title in a row. Kay Smuin will be unable to compete in the tourney due to the musical at Uintah High School. "The Steamboat Springs tournament is a fun tourney, and it also helps you out by telling you w hat you have to work on. It is -a tough tournament," remarked Uintah wrestling coach, Chuck Henry. The Uintah Utes will encounter Rock Springs, December 5 and Grand Junction Central December 12 on the road. "V . X L-h ' ' " - -""- .jj..
