Tim Sweeney won the first game, 21 to 5, and it appeared the he wasn't going to have any problems with Bruce Varon. Sweeney jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game, but Varon tied the game up at 3-3. However, Sweeney blew the game wide open when he scored 9 unanswered points for a 13 to 3 lead. Varon picked up two more points to cut Sweeney's lead to 13 to 5, but Sweeney blanked Varon, 8-0, the rest of the way to win the first game, 21 to 5. The lead changed hands several times in the early part of the second game, but Varon grabbed a 10 to 5 advantage ad-vantage to take command of the game. However, Sweeney outscored Varon, 8 to 1 for a 13 to 11 lead.
