Show NOAA weather braodcast to cover Uintah Basin The National Weather Service, in cooperation with the state of Utah, is expanding the coverage of the NOAA Weather Radio to include other areas in the state of Utah. A transmitter has . been installed on Tabby Mountain and will cover most of the Uintah Basin. NOAA Weather Radio is a service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It provides continuous broadcasts of the latest weather information directly from the National Weather. Service offices. Taped weather messages are repeated every 4 to 6 minutes and are routinely revised every 1 to 3 hours, or more frequently if needed. Most of the stations operate 24 hours daily. The broadcasts are tailored to weather information needs of people within the receiving area. During severe weather, National Weather Service forecasters can interrupt in-terrupt the routine weather broadcasts and insert special warning messages. The forecasters can also activate specially designed warning receivers. Such receivers either sound an alarm indicating that an emergency exists, or the receivers are automatically turned on so the warning message is heard. The NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts broad-casts are made on a high band FM frequency 162.40 or 162.55 Megahertz (MHZ). The Tabby Mountain transmitter tran-smitter will broadcast on 162.40 MHZ. This frequency is not found on the average home radio now in use. However, a number of radio manufacturers offer special weather radios to operate on these frequencies, with or without the emergency warning alarm. These receivers can be found in local radio stores. Also, there are now many radios on the market which offer the standard AM-FM frequencies plus the so-called weather band. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can usually be heard as far as 50 miles from the antenna site, sometimes more. The effective range depends on many factors such as terrain,- quality of the receiver, and the type of receiving antenna. As a general rule, listeners beyond the 50 mile range should have a good quality receiver system if they expect reliable reception; also an outside antenna may be required in the fringe areas. The weather information will be prepared in the Weather Service Forecast office in Salt Lake City and taped for continuous transmission 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The broadcasters will include local forecasts for the Uintah Basin. ...agricultural weather advisories ad-visories during the growing season. ...weather forecasts for the recreation areas such as Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge and Canyonlands, and also for the ski areas in the winter. Local weather conditions will be available and updated every hours. December 5, 12 Prenatal classes for women in last three mos. of pregnancy and their husbands, 7:30 p.m. VJH School Library.
