Light poles go up on AAain Street Main Street will be lighted nearly a month before scheduled because of an early shipment of the street lights. The new street lights, which are going go-ing up this week, use 50 percent less power and give off twice as much light as the old lights. "We are installing a more efficient sodium-vapor light," said Ken Fisher, city planner. The same number of lights will be installed in-stalled on Main Street, "we'll just have a more lighted street," Fisher added. Main Street will not have cross walks until next spring because the district office of-fice in Orem, Ut. refuses to paint them before that time, said Fisher. "A few people have called the district office along with the mayor requesting that cross walks be installed before spring," spr-ing," said Fisher, "but they refuse to do ' anything." The cross walks will be put in after the final surface is put on Main Street next spring. Pedestrians should be aware of the sloping handicap corners which are state regulation corners allowing handicapped han-dicapped persons to get on the sidewalk. "There haven't been any problems with the handicapped corners in other areas," Fisher said. "The surface is scratched to provide maximum traction." |
