Cheryl Phil 1 5 wins women's championship Cheryl Phillips pocketed first place in the women's division in the racquet ball tournament when she thumped Debra Brady in two games, Friday afternoon. Second place was captured by Debra Brady. The first place winner, Cheryl, leaped out to a 6 to 3 lead, but Debra narrowed the score to 8 to 7. Cheryl increased her lead to 9 to 7, but Debra gained a counter, which cut the score to 9 to 8. Cheryl picked up five points to take a 14 to 8 advantage, but three points by Debra cut Cheryl's lead to 14 to 11. Cheryl blanked Debra, 4 to 0, to take an 18 to 11 advantage. Debra scored her final point of the game, which made the score 18 to 12, and then Cheryl garnered three counters to win the first game, 21 to 12. Vernal's Cheryl Phillips jumped out to a huge lead early in the second game as she scored the first six points for a 6-0 advantage. Debra gained her first point, which made the score 6 to 1, and picked up her second point a few minutes later. Cheryl shutout Debra, 11 to 0 to take an 18 to 2 lead. Debra acquired ac-quired her third point, but Cheryl picked pick-ed up three more counters to win the second se-cond game and the match, 21 to 3. Cheryl Phillips toppled Patty Marshall Mar-shall in the first round, and thumped Linda Mott in the second round. Cheryl downed Margaret Mecham in order to get Into the finals. Debra Brady downed Kose Bigelow in order to get in the championship game. Patty Marshall captured the consolation consola-tion crown when she toppled Hose Bigelow, 21 to 10 and 21 to 2. Patty was thumped by Cheryl Phillips in the first round and defeated Kathy Shaw and Jean Peterson in consolation matches. Ten ladies competed in the tournament. Margaret Mecham defeated Laekie Harrison in order to get into the match with Cheryl Phillips.
