Show Ram Girls win Region PAROWAN - Parowan Rams girls track team easily won the Region meet last weekend at SUSC. The Parowan irack team under the direction of coach Kim Heppler are a dedicated group of fine athletes, undefeated un-defeated this year. Many new records were set at the meet by the Parowan girls: Michelle Bentley set a new region record in the shot put with a throw of 34'9". Michelle also won the discus throw with a distance of 93'3". Anita Green set a new record in the 220 yard dash with a 28:53 time. Linda Her-mansen Her-mansen placed second in the 220 with a 29:73 time. Anita Green also won the 100 yard dash with a time of 11.9, her teammate Diane Gurr placed 2nd in the race. Diane Gurr set a new region record in the trials for the 100 running it in 11:6. She also set a new record in the 110 yard low hurdles and in the 440 yard run with times of 16:35 and 104:88 respectively. Parowan's 440 relay team and mile realy team also set new records running the 440 in 54:55 and the mile in 448:50. Members of the 440 team are Anita Green, Diane Gurr, Linda Hermansen and Maria Robinson. Mile relay team members are Barbara Davenport, Diane Adams, Linda Hermansen Her-mansen and Michelle Bentley. The girls medley relay team placed 2nd in the meet with team members Sydnee Stevens, Lanette Gurr, Jeanette Hermansen and Natalie Van Nest. Raelene Mitchell placed 2nd in high jump. Barbara Davenport picked up a fourth in the 880 yard run. The girls racked up 139 points to dominate the scoring, North Sevier came in second with 89. The team will travel to Snow College Saturday May 13 to compete in the State Finals there. |
