Show Daryl Jones named State 1 A "Best Actor" -Z2r ($ . MMimUama'i.xi. . it . . .i. ... ....... .-. PA ROWAN Parowan High School's Student Body President, Daryl Jones, returned from the State Drama Meet, held at Weber State College, with the honor of retaining his title of "Best Actor" of State 1A schools, 1977-78. Mr. Jones captured the title at the Region 8 Meet with his performance as "Mr." in the one act play, "The Audience" and went to State where he captured the title on the state basis, 1976-77. 1976-77. Again, under the direction of Mr. Reed Lynn Turner, he entered competition in a one act play "Sex Does Not a Marriage Make". He retained the title in both the Region and State, 1977-78. According to Mr. Turner, Jones is a drama student who is willing to spend time to make his part believable. He has excellent stage STATE HONORS. Daryl Jones, left is presented with certificate cer-tificate by Reed Lynn Turner in recognition of his winning the Best Actor award for the second successive year for 1A schools. the direct result of hours and hours of rehearsal and energy spent in fulfilling his responsibility to the part, and will long be remembered remem-bered by those enjoying the play. The supporting ac-tresss ac-tresss was Miss Carolyn White. Scholarships have been offered to Mr. Jones, in recognition of his superior performances, by the BYU and Weber State. He is being considered, also, by Utah State University, Dixie College and SUSC. Mr. Jones is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jones, Parowan. He is a member of the Madrigals and plays the piano. He has lettered in football, basketball, baseball and cross-country track. Parowan High extends congratulations to Daryl for his leadership and success in many fields of the school. presence, he works hard at finding the heart of the character and the confidence con-fidence he displays on stage is the result of this difficult, painstaking work. During the school year, 1976- 77, Jones did a superb performance as Charlie Dalryrnple in "Brigadoon". He also played "Bottom" in the school's presentation of Mid Sumer Night's Dream and finished that school year with his unforgettable performance in "The Audience". The supporting actress was Miss Wendy Stubbs. The present school year, 1977- 78, found Jones carrying the lead, "Tony" in the production of "West Side Story". He protrayed the character so well that Mr. Turner felt he could place with any in the State. His protrayal of the character "Grandpa" in "Meet Me In St. Louis" was with great finesse. The ease he displayed on stage as Roger, the young married man in "Sex Does Not a Marriage Make", was |
