The answer Is Hill Air Force Base, Just south of Ogden, Utah. Here the Ogden Air Material Area .whose headquarters is Hill Air Force Base, in a short span of several years has become "The Hub of the Missile West." And that hub of the Missile Wet Is this week's 'Tour of the Week" as part of the Utah Tourist Tour-ist and Publicity Council's current cur-rent "See Utah" campaign designed de-signed to better acquaint Utahns with the Beehive State. Hill Air Force Base has nearly 14,00 military and civilian personnel per-sonnel engaged In some of the most important missions in the U. S. national defense picture. And Utahns in organized groups are welcome and invited to visit and tour this facility to get a glimpse at part of the nation's na-tion's defense set up. Lt. Col. Fredrick J. Betz, Information Infor-mation Officer for Hill AFB, said that organized groups can take from one to 3-hour tours of the base. "We would like about 10 days notice," Col. Betz said, "but all you have to do Is write to Mrs. Wanda Milne, c'o Office of Information, In-formation, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, to complete your tour arrangements." ar-rangements." Visitors are given a first hand breifing and then taken on a tour of the area escorted by Air Force officers, Col. Bet: explained. explain-ed. And while touring a visitor can see Utah's largest employer In action. Hill AFB boasts the state , largest payroll of more than $110 million. The Base has several missions. One of the important ones is its support for the Minutcman 1CBM. It has the only Air Material Area Minuteman assembly and maintenance main-tenance facilities. Located on the base is the $11 million Air Force Boeing Plant which assembles the missile. Other support and test facilities facili-ties are on the base for the important im-portant Minuteman which comes from Thiokol Chemical Corporation's Corpora-tion's complex near Tremonton and Hercules Powder Company, at Bacchus. The base also has a support mission for the F-4C. the Air Force's newest Jet fighter. In about two years, the supersonic F-4C will share the aircraft maintenance and repair lines with the 1,200 miles -per-hour F-101 F-101 Voodoo which now comprises a major Ogden AMA mission. The Strategic Air Command also al-so has a stake at the base. SAC, last year, ordered 18 B-52 and KC-135 mobile simulators to be constructed by the training devices de-vices section at Hill. Other activities Include the 2705th Air Munitions Wing. The wing has world-wide responsibility responsi-bility for Air Force "on-the-shelf" air munitions and propellants. Many other military groups and organizations function on the base. And the sum total of these well-trained, dedicated personnel person-nel and their vital missions provide pro-vide Hill Air Force Base with a key stone in the defense of the United States.
