Show Sudden Storm Brings Snow, Sub -Zero Temperatures It was a white Christmas for residents of Iron County but a cold one. Storms which brought as high as 10 inches of snow to the area Monday vanished Monday even- ing bringing behind it an extreme ex-treme cold front to drop what had been moderate fall and winter win-ter temperatures to rock bottom. Christmas eve in Cedar City found Santa bundled as if he was still at the North Pole with the thermometer reading 16 degrees de-grees below zero. Christmas day did not bring much relief with temperatures not rising above 21 degrees and Christmas night It again droDDed below the 0 mark to 12 below. The early Monday morning storm which struck sometime after af-ter midnight, was a surprise to almost everyone In the area. Previously, temperatures in the area had been In the 20's at night and rising high into the 40's during the day. The sudden storm and sudden drop of temperatures was a forceful reminder that winter had actually begun December 22. Highway 91 became icy and slick but over the Christmas day the Highway Patrol reported that no serious accidents had occured. Cedar City police reported similarly si-milarly that only minor accidents acci-dents due to the storm had beer, investigated and that an ex-tremely ex-tremely quiet day was Interrupted Interrup-ted mostly by calls for assistance to get automobiles started. Cold temperatures were expected expect-ed to remain throughout the week but no major storms were indicated. Monday's storm, although general gen-eral throughout the state, was heaviest In the Immediate area. Up to 10 inches of snow was recorded re-corded from Kanarra on the south to Beaver on the north with the storm dissipating from those points. In Cedar City the snow brought a welcome 22 of . an inch of moisture, as recorded by the Federal Aviation Agency - . at the Municipal Airport. |
