Show County Farm Bureau Directors Oppose New Program The Board of Directors of the Iron County Farm Bureau met April 21, at which the proposed Farm Legislation was discussed at great length. This plan would reduce farmers' freedom and make them even more dependent on government for their livelihood. liveli-hood. More important, however, is that this new program will probably add $300 million to consumer food costs through a forced rise in the price of bread, flour and rice. This increase would not go to the farmer but would be consumed in administration adminis-tration costs of the new program. This proposed legislation also gives to the Secretary of Agriculture Agri-culture more authority over the farmers of our nation than is sensible to intrust to any one person, regardless of political party. This controversy Is not a partisan parti-san question. Senator Clinton Anderson, D-New Mexico, former Secretary of Agriculture under President Truman, has strongly denounced the compensatory payment approach, Farm Bureau members want a systematic reduction re-duction in farm subsidies, not more of them. After thirty years of government farm programs, farmer's buying power reached a new low in August, 1964. Your food costs and our freedom free-dom to farm are both at stake. We strongly urge everyone to write to their congressional de-lagatl de-lagatl i expressing opposition to this bill (HR 7097) immediately. Iron County Fim Buicau By Dick Nelson |
