Show Retiring School Superintendent to be Honored Thursday night May 6, has been selected as the date for presentation pre-sentation of a special appreciation apprecia-tion tribute to Ianthus Wright, Superintendent of Iron County School District. A committee, spearheaded by the School Board and administrators but representing repre-senting all factions of the community com-munity has planned a special program on this date. Dr. Clifton Clif-ton Moffatt, noted Utah Educator Educa-tor and life-long friend of Mr. Wright, will be the guest speaker. speak-er. Superintendent Wright has served the Iron County School District for 25 years and under his leadership, a treasure house of paintings have been accumulated accum-ulated purchased each year at the annual Art Exhibit The school district has brought to-gether to-gether all of these paintings and will hang them in exhibit at the new High School on May 6, 7, 8, 9 for the public to enjoy. This exhibit is In cooperation with the annual Art Exhibit as an added attraction and will express better than words, a debt of gratitude grat-itude for the cuUural influence of Superintendent Wright in Iron County. Both he and Mrs. Wright have served many years on the Art Exhibit Committee. This exhibit will be open from 6:00 to 10:00 p. m. Thursday, May 6; 9:00 a. m. to 9 p. rn., Friday, May 7, and from 2:00 to 9:00 p. m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9. Superintendent was born In Hinckley, Utah, and attended Public school there. He graduated from high school at the Millard Academy In Hinckley and recev-ed recev-ed his bachelors degree at the Agricultural College In Logan. He worked on his masters at BYU and at the University of Wisconsin In Madison. He filled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints In Iowa and then returned re-turned to his home town of Hinckley Hinck-ley to teach school. It was while there that he met and married Alice Stebbins of Chicago, who has been a great strength to him In his life. They are the parents of three children, Donna Mae Milne of Cedar City, Grant S. of IANTHUS WRIGHT Reseda, California, and Carol Goddard of Long Beach, California. Califor-nia. Mr. Wright came to Cedar City in 1936 to teach at the Branch Agricultural College. At this time, the college and high school were housed together at the college. In 1941 he became the first high school principal of the, then, new high school. He was appointed Superintendent Superintend-ent of Iron County schools In 1945. At this time there was no North, East, or South Elementar-ies. Elementar-ies. The new Parowan School and the new Cedar High School have been constructed under Mr. Wright's supervision. Visitors come from all parts of the country coun-try to observe local schools which are dedicated to more effective education where the emphasis is placed on the student and his potential. Much of this philosophy philoso-phy is attributed to Superintendent Superintend-ent Wright. His Influence in the Community Commun-ity as well as the School District has been far reaching. He has been an Ex-Offlcio member of the Coordinating Council and has contributed much In cultural activities ac-tivities of the community. He has been long time member of the Rotary Club. Iron County citizens will have the opportunity of expressing appreciation ap-preciation for this service by attending at-tending the meeting, Thursday, May 6, at 8:00 p. m. at the new high school auditorium and by attending the art exhibit May 6-9, 6-9, at the high school.
