Show Parsons Meet CSU In Double Header Saturday The College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds will be attempting to boost their season record beyond be-yond the 500 mark Saturday when they take on the Westminster Westmin-ster Parsons of Salt Lake City Saturday afternoon in a double header. The first game is slated for I p. m. at the Cedar City Municipal Munici-pal park and will be followed immediately by the second contest con-test in the series. Going into the games with the Parsons the T-Birds v ill take a II win and 12 'as record. A pair of victories Saturday could boost them over the 500 mark for the season, Coach Clco Petty pointed out. 1 In a road trip into northern I Utah the T-Birds met and de-( de-( feated the Westminster crew 14 j to 6. The second game of the double header was rained out. On the mound for that victory was Son Sudbury. Saturday Coach Petty will probably pro-bably go with Sudbury, Dennis Osgood and Hank Halversen. Osgood has the best record on the team with a 4 and 1 mark Including a victory in relief Sat- urday against Nevada Southern. Halversen has pitched more in-1 in-1 nings than any other on the mound staff, with a total of 45 and Sudbury has the best earned run average at 3.54. Osgood's : ERA is 3.74 and Halverson is at 4. GO. Leading in strikeouts is Osgood with 40. j Dennis Wood is currently the leading hitter on the squad. A catcher, he has only 16 official Hips at bat but has collected seven hits for a .438 mark. Halversen Hal-versen with 22 at bats, is hitting at a .409 clip and John Johnson with 74 trips to the plate is hitting hit-ting at a .378 pace followed by ileed Backus with a .333 average. Johnson has the most hits, 28, is leading in runs scored (He is the lead off man) with 16. Rex Wright leads the team in runs batted in with 18 to his credit followed by Backus and Doug j Walters with 13 each. |
