Show Eighteen Year Old Track Record of Cedar Athlete Broken The Brlgham Young University Invitational Track and Field Meet record in 880 yard run, established by Dr. Rodney A. Brown of Cedar City, finally fell this past week end in Provo, after af-ter 18 long years of withstanding the annual assault on It each spring at the April meet at BYU. Dr. Brown set this record in the Junior College division of the huge track festival while performing per-forming In the middle-distance events for the Branch Agricultural Agricultur-al College (now CSU) in 1947. The time for this long-standing record rec-ord In the 880 yard run was 2:03.3. The new record was set by John Barms of Dixie College in a time of 2:003. Dr. Brown participated In the 440 yard dash, the 880 yard run, and the mile relay for BAC during dur-ing 1946 and 1947. He held records rec-ords in several of these events for some time In the old Hurricane Hur-ricane Invitaional, and at the BYU Invitational, and had the best time run on the BAC track in the half mile at a time of 2:02 Rodney Brown, Merl Prince, Jack Woodbury and Dale Milne set a new record in the mile relay re-lay at the National Junior College Col-lege Track Championships held in Phoenix, Arizona In 1946, in a time of 3:26.4. Dr. Brown also participated in track at Utah State in Logan in 1948. |
