Show I Father A. A. LeMay Succumbs, Mass Held in Salt Lake City Solemn pontifical high mass for the Hev. Alphonse A. LeMay, 45, southern Utah Catholic missionary mis-sionary priest was celebrated this, Thursday, morning in the Cathedral of the Magdeleine in Salt Lake City. Father LeMay, who labored in the Christ the King church in Cedar City for many years and was very well known and respected re-spected here, died at Kanab Saturday. Sat-urday. Death came as the result re-sult of a heart ailment it is understood. un-derstood. He first suffered a slight attack on March 17, his friends report, and later suffered a more severe attack which resulted re-sulted in his death. The Rev. LeMay, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, was born Nov. 7, 1907. Since his ordination ordi-nation in 1934 he has made Utah his home. He first served in Salt Lake City, attached to the Cathedral Ca-thedral of the Magdeleine, then was assigned to Cedar City where he labored until about two years ago. After leaving Cedar City he was assigned to Vernal, and later to Kanab, beginning his ministry in the Kane county city on Feb. 2, 1953. At the time of his death he was planning to construct a church in Kanab. Since first coming com-ing to Cedar City, Father LeMay had been devoted to southern Utah and was regarded by the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese as one of its most able missionary-priests. missionary-priests. Cedar City Tuesday evening, after af-ter which the body was taken to Salt Lake City for burial in the Cathloic Clergy plot in Mt. Cal vary cemetery. The Rev. LeMay is survived j by his mother, who has been staying with him in Kanab, and j was with him throughout his service ser-vice in Cedar City. |
