Show 1150 Gallons Per Minute Well Added to System Monday at 9 a. m. a congregation congrega-tion of interested citizens of Cedar Ce-dar City gathered at the site of the newly installed Enoch well to view the opening ceremonies connecting the well with the culinary cul-inary water system of Cedar City. This well, capable of furnishing furnish-ing 1130 gallons ot water icr minute into the Cecinr City system sys-tem was undertaken by the Cedar City water board after studies of previous water additions had failed to increase the supply sufficiently suf-ficiently for the summer need. However, it is understood that this addition to the system will be used for emergency purposes only. It will will be turned on only when conditions in the city reach the emergency mark in the late summer months. The water is pumped from this Enoch basin site four miles to the 2,000,000 gallon storage tank near the north entrance of the city, according to Thomas Thor-sen, Thor-sen, city manager. With the late summer supply to the water system furnishing sometimes as low as 400 gallons per minute the addition of the well will completely eliminate the emergency measures that have been taken in past summers. sum-mers. But according to city officials, offi-cials, it does not solve the city's water problem because It is strictly a temporary measure. Installation of the equipment at the Enoch well was handled through the Cedar City engineering engineer-ing office with the Southern Utah Power company handling the wiring and installation of the control panel. It is understood, that a high voltage wire was brought to the pump area and three large transformers installed instal-led at the site by the local power pow-er company. Present at the turning on ceremonies cere-monies were Mayor L. ,V. Broad-bent, Broad-bent, all members of the Cedar City Council, the Cedar City water wa-ter board, and interested members mem-bers of the citizenry, plus the press and radio. The completion of the project was hailed as a minestone toward to-ward the development of the fast growing Cedar City, but water board officials state that they will not relax until a more adequate ade-quate and permanent supply of water can be obtained for the city. |
