Show Cedar City BPW Club Learns Strategic Role Assigned Utah in Defense Evacuation Plan Members of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Cedar City were told last Thursday Thurs-day evening that the State of Utah has been designated for Civil Defense purposes, as critical, crit-ical, by Hal Chrlstensen Civil Defense director of Iron County. Chrlstensen pointed out that not only is the original atom bomb obsolete but also the original orig-inal Civil Defense program. Because Be-cause of the anticipated evacu-tion evacu-tion of the Pacific Coast in the event of an Atomic attack the Utah CD program has been designed de-signed as strategic in the national na-tional program. In attendance at the BPW meeting were citizens from Parowan, Paro-wan, Beryl, Newcastle, Kanarra, and Cedar City. County CD officers of-ficers who conducted the educational educa-tional meeting Included Mamie Eck, Milton Sevy, Chrlstensen and County commissioner Jess Guyman. The CD committee told of the organization assignments and achievements on the county level. Guyman pointed out that the Iron CD chapter is considered one of the best organizations In the state, and has been highly praised by State and National officials. Sevy, head of the Cedar City branch of the program told the BPW members of the law enforcement en-forcement training that is being carried on at the present time and Miss Eck enlightened the group on the part women will be expected to play in the CD program. In addition to the instructive information from the county officials of-ficials a film "Operations Cross Roads," dealing with the detonation detona-tion of an H-bomb in the Pacific, Pac-ific, was shown to the group. In recognition of International Federation Week of the BPW clubs, Candace Ewing and Miss Eck paid tribute to the more than 350,000 members of BPW clubs In over 20 countries. Mrs. Ewing supervised a special candle can-dle lightening ceremony and Miss Eck read a tribute to the organization. Colors were presented pre-sented by three Boy Scouts and Lois McConnell and Miss Eck sang "Flag Without A Stain" and "The Star Spangled Banner." Ban-ner." They were accompanied by Beth Leigh. |
