Show Committee Chairman Invites Application From H. S. Students for Elks Sponsored Test Applications for Worthy Student Stu-dent Award, presented each year to some outstanding student at some southern Utah high school, are being received now by the local lo-cal group, according to Leonard Smith, chairman. Students at any southern Utah school who feel that they could qualify for the coveted award and the prize money, can obtain ob-tain applications from the principal's princi-pal's office, Smith stated. The program, conducted by the local Elks Lodge, is coordinated with the national and state programs. pro-grams. Trlzes cf $75, $50 and $25 ate given for first, second and third place honors, respectively, by the local group. In turn the and second place winners will be eligible for competition on the state level and so on into the national category. On the national "program a total to-tal qf $28,000 will be given in scholarships and cash awards First place will receive $1000. It was pointed out by Smith that a number of requirements are necessary besides the filling out of an application-Each application-Each application must contain a recent photograph; a statement state-ment of not more than 300 words prepared by the applicant in his own handwriting, summarizing activities, accomplishments and objective of further education; a letter of not ever 200 words from a parent or other person having knowledge of the facts, presenting a picture of the family fam-ily situation; a history of the ar-plicant's ar-plicant's schooling from first year of - high school or preparatory school. A comprehensive letter of recommendation rec-ommendation covering character, personality and scholarship of the applicant from at least one person in authority In the school; two or three letters of endorsement endorse-ment from responsible persons, not related to the applicant, ami a letter of endorsement signed by the exalted luler or secretary of the local lodge.
