Show Pheasants, Grouse And Dove Hunting Seasons Set The Utah Board of Big Game Control has set the opening of the pheasant hunting season as Nov. 7. The season will open at 8 a. m. as set by statute during the 1953 Legislature session. The bag limit, lim-it, length of season, and other factors governing the hunt will not be drawn up until field counts determine the success of the spring pheasant hatch. A two-day, special permit sage grouse hunt has been set for Sept. 19 and 20. with permits totaling 1,135 allotted over 17 hunting units. Reductions may later be made in any or all of the districts if late July counts indicate less grouse should be taken. As with the pheasants, later counts of grouse population are necessary in determining the harvest of these birds because of an unusually cold, wet spring effecting the bird's nesting habits. ha-bits. Hunting areas, the number of permits for each, the dates of application, and other rules and regulations will be shown in a proclomotion to be published in early August. Mourning dove hunting has been scheduled for Sept. 1, with the season running through Sept. 13. Rules and regulations for this hunt are subject to final approval approv-al by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Ten doves will be both hag and possession limit during the season. All counties of the state will be open to mourning dove hunting except Davis and Weber, and parts of Salt Lake and Carbon counties. A game bird, or combination fishing and hunting license will be required for hunting pheasants pheas-ants and mourning doves. A possessor pos-sessor of such license will be eligible to apply for a sage grouse permit. As in past years public drawings will be held for the permits in sage grouse areas that are over-subscribed. |
