Show Six Hours Spent Annually in Just Opening Cans How long does it take to manufacture man-ufacture all the cans used in a year by a typical Utah family? Less than two minutes, according ac-cording to R. K. Dickey, central division manager of manufacture manufac-ture for American Can company, who reports that an average of 788 cans of products of all types are opened annually by every family in the state. ' High speed automatic machines ma-chines at Canco's Ogden factory now p'roduce these containers at speeds up to 450 per minute, Diskey said. Seventy-five years ago, added the representative of the firm which pioneered modern methods of container making, it required more than 130 man-hours man-hours to make the same number of cans. More than one-third of all the cans opened in typical American Ameri-can home today contain fruits and vegetables. Next in numerical numeri-cal order come ber cans, followed fol-lowed by cans for evaporated milk, oil and coffee, Dickey said. |
