Show Figures Reveal Heavy Visitor Increase fit Zion, Bryce Parks Analysis of the travel for the first six months of the calendar year indicates that Zion and Bryce National Parks will set new attendance records in 1953. Superintendent Sup-erintendent Paul R. Franke announced an-nounced today that as of June 30 Zion National Park has registered reg-istered 140,825 visitors in 1953 against 128,300 registrations in. 1952. The increase of 12,465 is approximately 10 per cent. The first few days of July show even greater crowds which will be reflected re-flected in the July summaries. Mr. Franke states that at Bryce Canyon National Park the increase in-crease is not in proportion. In the first six months of 1952 Bryce registered 45,681 visitors and this year 40,997, an increase of 1.316 or less than three per cent. The interesting point coming to light this year in the Park travel figures is that fewer people peo-ple are riding in each car. Usually Usual-ly our travel, Mr. Franke states, averages 3.5 persons per car. But this year the ratio is just under 3 persons per car. In 1952 during the first six months 59.816 visitor visit-or automobiles entered Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks while in 1953 in a like period 71,-762 71,-762 visitor automobiles entered the parks. "In other words we had 11,916 more automobiles but only 18,900 more people," Mr. Franke said. |
