Show Softball League Catches Up on Lost Games; Columbia Still Holds Lead TEAM STANDINGS Columbia 9 2 .818 Iron Mountain .... 8 2 .800 Utah Const 8 3 .727 Desert Mound .... 7 3 .700 Bradshaw 3 8 .272 rarowan 2 9 .181 El Rey Cafe 1 11 .083 During the past week the Cedar City softball league has been busy making up postponed games and bringing the league schedule up to date. Games that shifted the team standings around slightly were the rule with four mine teams meeting and changing the situation somewhat. The two most Important games of the week involved Desert Mound. Monday evening the Mounders threw the league into practically a three-way tie when they downed the Iron Mt. nine in a thrilling 7 to 1 contest. This game gave Iron Mountain, Desert Mound and Columbia two losses each and actually gave the edge to Columbia and Des ert Mound In the win column. However, Tuesday evening Desert Des-ert Mound faced Columbia and the score of 7 to 1 was reversed In favor of the Columbia team. Columbia had dropped from the top ranks last week end when Utah Construction came in for a lick and bet Columbia 7 to 6 in a game that saw Utah score one run in the sixth and seventh innings to gain the one point victory. Bunny Fullmer for Columbia has been burning up the league this past wek and was instrumental instru-mental in the Columbia victory over Desert Mound and almost added the necessary spark in the Utah Construction game when they lost by one point. Joe Valentine of Desert Mound broke up the game against Iron Mountain Moun-tain In the fifth inning when he slashed out a double with two on and two out to break the hopes of the Mountain crew. Pitching duels were the rule of the week with Yorke Nelson turning turn-ing in a victory for Columbia, while George Sturznegger won against Iron Mountain for Desert Des-ert Mound and lost to Columbia the following evening. Not to be discredited, Parowan who has been riding the cellar post throughout the season and who had gone winless until last week, pulled two wins out of the bag and climbed up the ladder one step, dropping El Rey Cafe to the bottom. Wins for Parowan were scored over Bradshaw Chevrolet Chev-rolet Saturday night, 14 to 12, and over El Rey Cafe Wednesday evening In a close battle 9 to 8. In a third encounter during the week Parowen led the Iron Mountain team for four innings but fell behind in the last three to lose by a wide margin, 12 to 4. Iron Mountain scored 11 runs In the last three innings. Iron Mountain came in for another an-other win In a makeup game last Friday evening when it clowned El Rey Cafe 11 to 6 in a fairly close game, where again the miners were forced to come from behind in the late inning to score the victory. Utah Construction was credited with a 6 to 0 win over El Rey Monday evening when the El Rey failed to field a team and the Rame was forfeited in favor of Utah Construction. A run down of the scores for the past week is as follows: Iron Mountain 11, El Rey 6. Utah Construction 7, Columbia G. Parowan 14, Bradshaw 12.
