Show Former BilC Staff Member Produces Pageant Grant Redford, formerly a mem ber of the Branch Agricultural College faculty in Cedar City, and now at the University of Washington, Wash-ington, has written, directed and produced the "Washington Story" at Aberdeen, Wash. The "Washington Story" is a history of the State of Washington Washing-ton in pageant form and is rather rath-er unique in the manner of production, pro-duction, according to reports received re-ceived in Cedar City. It was produced pro-duced as a feature of the centennial cen-tennial celebration of the state. Mr. Redford, while at the BAC and Cedar City, was the author of the Easter Pageant that was staged at Zion National Park for a number of years. The "Washington Story" was unique in that the voices for the pageant were recorded and the actors during the performance merely pantomined their voices while the tape recording boomed to the audience. An Aberdeen, Washington, newspaper had this to say about the pageant: "Mr. Redford, who wrote, directed and produced the pageant, his production pro-duction staff and members of the cast, have accomplished with distinction the difficult task of of creating a historical pageant that could, if necessary, stand alone on its entertainment merits. mer-its. "Because of the limitations arising from the necessity of sticking entirely to facts, it is not possible to produce an historical pageant with the pace and vivacity viva-city of a musical comedy: "The Washington Story', however, moves right along. "The taping method also provides pro-vides better audial reception and does away with Incongruities. Timing was nearly perfect. As a matter of fact, we don't believe that anyone who was not aware of the taping device could detect that the actors were not actually actual-ly speaking their lines. "Nearly $12,000 worth of lighting light-ing equipment was used for the show and the special lighting effects ready were superb." The "Easter Pageant" at Zion National Tark was a credit to Mr. Redford and the "Washington Story" is another masterful piece to add to his collection of pageantries. pa-geantries. Mr. Redford is a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Myron F. Higbee of Cedar City. |
