The Chatelles, coached by Jeanette Newton, kept getting better and better as the school year progressed, finishing fourth in the novelty division of the USA Nationals Dance and Drill Team competition held in Anaheim, California. Wildcats march to nationals competition they received superior ratings in military, dance and novelty. novel-ty. New members of the Chatelles are selected in the spring of each year. A panel of judges selects 20 to 26 girls after a difficult tryout. Judges use a point system to judge technique, dance skills and showmanship. In addition the girls must maintain high academic standards. stan-dards. The Chatelles practice every morning at 6 a.m. during the school year and often again after school. Lacie Bryant, president of this year's team, has been selected for the 1991 -92 Cougarettes dance team at Brigham Young University, where she will be a freshman this year. She was also Prom Queen at Woods Cross High this year. Other members of the Chatelles this season are: Kim Bangerter, Shana Bowen, Cherilyn Bradford, Kim Caldwell, Sara Dowdle, April France, Michon Juluson, Mandi McBride, Jen Mclelland, Emily Nielsen, Jenny Peck, Kristen Poole, Becky Reese, Shaunna Smith, Laurel Stump, Melissa Swensen, Heather Tanner, Suzy Trinnaman, Mindy Wilson and Nicole World. The Woods Cross Chatelles drill team wrapped up its 1 990-9 1 season with its recent year-end show at Woods Cross High. The team, coached by Jeanette Newton, has continued to grow and develop into a championship team. This spring they qualified for the first time to compete at the USA Nationals Dance and Drill Team competition held in Anaheim, Calif. They came away with a fourth place finish in the novelty category in the championship division. ; While visiting Disneyland, the girls had an added bonus of being asked to film a promotional campaign cam-paign for a "Make A Wish Contest' Con-test' to be aired this summer on cable television's Disney Channel After signing release forms, each of the girls expressed for the director and camera crew what one wish concerning Disneyland they have I always wanted. Answers ranged i from wanting a date with Mickey Mouse to starring in a Disney film classic such as "Alice in Wonderland. ' I To qualify for nationals, the Chatelles finished third in military and dance divisions at the Northern Utah Drill competition. At region |
