Show Lay off late-night snacks If you've got a weak stomach if you suffer from gastric distress such as heartburn or the pain of an ulcerthen ul-certhen you might be better off eating your dinner earlier in the evening. Swiss scientists fed a group of men and women a sandwich for dinner at either 6 p.m. or 9 p.m., , - then measured the acid content of their stomachs throughout the night. They found that the late eaters stomachs averaged about 20 percent more than that of the early diners. Why? When you eat, your stomach releases acids to help you digest your food. While the food itself may be gone in as little as four hours, the acid can last as long as seven. Thus, the earlier you eat, the more settled your stomach-! likely to be when it's time to hit the pillow. |
