Show Cedar City to host regional rodeo competition The first meet of the year was held last weekend in Orem. SUSC generally host the competition springquarter during Wild West Week. Rodeo royalty selected last spring will reign over the October3-4 contest. Queen Cheri Trejo, a sophomore from Monroe, will ride with her fist and second attendants Effie Sorensen, a sophomore from Cedar City, and Debby Dotson, a senior from Las Vegas. Rodeo competition between the 12 colleges and universities in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association RockyMountian Region, will be held October 3 and 4 at the Iron Rangers Arena, hosted by the Southern Utah state College rodeo club. Rodeo action will beign both evenings at 7' p.m. and a matinee performance per-formance will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. according ac-cording to Lark Flanigan, rodeo club advisor. Included in the competition com-petition will be teams from SUSC, Boise State Universtiy, College of Southern Idaho, Idaho State University, Dixie College, Snow College, Utah State University, Weber State College, University of Utah, Utah Technical Colleges at Salt Lake City and Provo-Orem, Provo-Orem, and from Northern Nevada Community College. Along with regulation rodeo events, specialty contests are being planned by the rodeo club, Flanigan said. Advance tickets are available at SUSC and at several local businesses at $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. If purchased at the gate, tickets will cost $3 for adults and $2 for children. Senior citizens and children under 12 will be admitted to the rodeo free of charge. SUSC students with identification cards will also be admitted nee. "We'll be running double eliminations in the regular rodeo competition, com-petition, with the top 10 contenders in each event competing in the championship round Saturday evening," Flanigan said. |
