Show Larry Harper Dave Mollica Mollica, Harper named top players losses were turned into first downs by nifty Mollica scrambling. His total losses amounted to just two yards. Coming into the game, Mollica ranked ninth in the nation (NAIL), in total offense, a ranking which shouldn't be damaged too much with Saturday's 211-yard performance. Harper, the 6-7, 264-pound 264-pound junior from Phoenix, Ariz., was as large a part of the defense as his size. The big man towers over the rest of his teammates by at least two inches. The tackle was credited with 10 stops, and seemed to be in Mesa's backfield as often as the Maverick's running backs. He figured in just about all of the T-Birds five quarterback sacks for the afternoon, and led a defensive line which yeilded just slightly over 2.5 yards-per-carry. Both Mollica and Harper ' will be awarded certificates, recognizing their selection. When a team wins 44-3, as SUSC did over Mesa Saturday, typically any one of a number of players could be singled out for outstanding play. Recognizing that such was the case, The Iron County Record is honoring quarterback Dave Mollica on offense and defensive tackle Larry Harper on defense, as SUSC players of the week. Mollica, the smooth 6-2 senior from Costa Mesa, Calif., has made a nifty transition from the defensive backfield last year, to quarterback. In no game was that transition tran-sition better illustrated than against Mesa. Mollica completed 8-of-17 passes for 94 yards, and, more importantly, three touchdowns. But it was on the ground where the 'Bird's number 10 made the biggest dent in the Mesa defense. He rushed for 117 yards in 13 attempts, a hefty 9-yard-per-carry average.
