Uin- tah captured first place in the optional events. Teams from Uintah, Uin-tah, Mountain View and Provo competed in the meet. Uinflcah Uves garner 1st piece honors The Uintah Ute gymnastics team pocketed first place in the optional division of a meet in Vernal, March 3 with a total of 85.69 points. Provo placed second at 40.70 and Mountain View captured third place at 26.95. Keni Hacking, Uintah, nabbed first place in the floor exercise with an average score of 9.10. Three judges awarded her scores of 9.3, 9.0 and 9.0. Uintah's Jori Remington collected second place with an average of 8.93. She posted scores of 8.7, 9.1 and 9.0. The Utes' Julie Crane netted third place with an average of 8.27. She nabbed scores of 8.0, 8.3 and 8.5. Tami Lenhardt, Uintah, placed fourth at 7.63. She had scores of 8.2, 7.8 and 6.9. Lisa Oswald, Uintah, collected fifth place at 6.87 and had scores of 7.0, 7.6 and 6.8. Provo's Struthers captured first place in the balance beam with an average of 7.5. She had scores of 7.7 and 7.3. Uintah's Hacking placed third at 7.25. She had scores of 7.2 and 7.3. Rochel of Provo picked up second place honors at 7.3. She had tallies of 7.0 and 7.6. Mountain View's Whitney Fackrell and Lisa Cahoon tied for fourth place at 7.05. Fackrell nabbed scores of 7.1 and 7.0 and Cohoon had scores of 6.9 and 7.2. Uintah's Remington placed sixth at 7.0. She had scores of 7.1 and 6.9. Other Uintah girls, who competed on the balance beam, were: Crane, 6.5; Vicki Powell, 6.15 and Lori Argyle, 6.7. Argyle had scores of 6.6 and 6.8 and Crane had tallies of 6.8 and 6.2. Powell had scores of 6.3 and 6.0. Also taking part in the balance beam, were: Provo-Woodward, Provo-Woodward, 6.6; Cummins, 5.85; Payne, 6.95; Pace, 6.3 and Mountain View-Hansen, View-Hansen, 6.8; Hall, 6.05. Kathy Chivers, Uintah, pocketed first place in the uneven parallel bars at 6.79. She had scores of 6.5, 6.3 and 7.5. Lenhart placed second at 4.50. She had tallies of 5.1, 4.7 and 4.3. The Provo and Orem girls only competed in the op tional beam as they had to leave early. "Uintah did a super job. They performed per-formed well and were excited. We had some outstanding performances in the optional floor exercises," stated Uintah coach, Loa Kay Bowthorpe. The Utes will battle Timpview on the road, Tuesday and will host Timpview and American Kork, March 23. War- mups begin at 3 p.m. and the competition com-petition will start at 4 p.m. The Utes and Mountain View will encounter the Cavewomen at American Fork, March 30. The region meet will be held at Provo, April 7 and the state meet will be at West Jordan, April 16. Uintah will have a gymnastics show, April 14. Uintah will compete at Union, Friday, March 19.
