' X., f , "3 'X..: A, ORCHESTRA STUDENTS-of-the-month were Garrett Oleen, Jerry Brewer, Marianna Smith Three musicians claim status of student-of-month Three young musicians achieved student-of-the-month status last Monday at the Uintah Youth Orchestra play-offs Jerry Brewer, Garrett Oleen and Stacey Willis. Jerry Brewer is the son of Sue and Philip Brewer. He attends, Central School where he is in the second grade. Jerry began his violin studies last June with Ora Fay Oviatt and has made very rapid progress. Jerry chose to play violin because his mother encouraged him to do so. Jerry enjoys playing his violin, biking and studying. He is an honor student and recently received a blue ribbon for his science project and a red ribbon for his history project. Cellist Garrett Oleen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Oleen. He is a fourth-grade fourth-grade student at Central Elementary School. Garrett played violin for six months, but decided that he preferred to play cello. He got his cello for Christmas and began to study with Marjean Oviatt in January. In just two months he achieved his student of the month status. Garrett also enjoys 4-H work, Cub Scouts and sports. Stacie Willis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Willis. She is a fifth grade student at Ashley Elementary. Stacie began her violin studies' in Wheatland, Wyo., in third grade. She moveo. to vernal in June ana joined the Uintah Youth Orchestra in January. . She is a student of Marjean Oviatt. Stacie chose to play violin because she thought it was an interesting instrument. in-strument. She also plays clarinet and is a member of the Ashley Singers. She likes soccer and horses. Marianna Smith practiced 62 hours in . February to become the practice champion in Orchestra I for two months in a row. Marianna attends Discovery Elementary where she is in the third grade. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mike Smith. Members of Orchestra 2 and 3 presented a third-term recital to parents and family members Monday evening. Each member was required to play a polished accompanied solo for their third-term grade. Outstanding solos will be featured at the Silver Tea which will be held on March 27. Practice awards were earned by Deena MacDonald and Marjean Oviatt. Three members of Orchestra 3 participated in regional music festivals during the past month. Marjean Oviatt, cellist, and Adrea Amodt, violinist, participated in the recent regional high school music festival in American Fork. Philip Oviatt, violinist, competed in the Federation of Musician Junior Competiton at the University of Utah where he received a superior rating. and Stacey Willis. |
