Show White River Dam could be finished in 1 985 The White River Dam project is the largest single water project the state has ever undertaken. The project has the potential of earning $6.5 million annually an-nually from the sale of water and power, stated Bill Gibson, chairman of the Board of Utah Water Resources, sponsors of the project. Gibson is the Vernal First Security Bank manager. Gibson told Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce members Tuesday that the White River Dam could be completed by the summer of 1985 if the present timetable fell into place. r The recent biological non-jeopardy opinion given by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management will put the project back on tract, Gibson stated. By the end of this year all the permits should be in order to bid the project in February of 1983. Construction could start as soon as April of 1983. The White River Dam will contain 109,000 acre-feet of water, about three times the amount contained in Steinaker Reservoir. Active storage (Continued on page 2) Dam (Continued from page 1) will amount to 70,700 acre-feet. Companies Com-panies that are interested in getting water from the reservoir are White River Shale Oil Co.; Texaco, Paraho, Syntana, Magic Circle, Tosco, Gulf Mineral Resources and two other oil companies. The water could already be oversubscribed, if those showing interest in-terest follow through with their projects, pointed out Gibson.
