Show Energy Saving New Alloys A new material metallic glass promises substantial savings in the energy field and pass-along benefits worth billions of dollars for consumers. The amorphous alloys of metal are not glass you can see through, but alloys whose molecular structure resembles that of glass. They are called Metglas Alloys. It's said that residential distribution transformers alone waste more than $1 billion of electricity annually annual-ly in the U.S. Making these transformers' cores from Metglas Alloys rather than conventional silicon steel could cut. this waste by two-thirds according to Allied Al-lied Corporation, which developed de-veloped and now makes these new alloys. Generator cores, mofor cores and fluorescent fluo-rescent lamp ballasts are other major potential saving sources. Strips concealed in book spines will provide pilfer-proof pilfer-proof security systems in some libraries. |
