Show CHURCHMEN DECRY DIVORCE INCREASES PORTLAND, Ore., May 22. A resolution resolu-tion condemning Oregon as one of the worst states In the union with regard to the divorce evil and providing for the appointment of a committee to investigate investi-gate conditions and instigate "legislation to mitigate the growing tendency to divorce, di-vorce, was adopted here today by the Thirty-first diocesan convention of the Episcopal church. The Rev. Thomas Jenkins Jen-kins of this city, introducing the resolution, resolu-tion, declared that conditions here in regard to the divorce evil are "hellish." Another resolution adopted recommended recom-mended an increase of 20 per cent in the salaries of the clergy receiving $2500 a year or less, and a third resolution suggested sug-gested an appropriate service be established estab-lished for the observance of Washington's Washing-ton's birthday. |
