Show SUFFRAGE CERTAIN. Senator Hale of Maine, "who voted against tho suffrage resolution at the last session of congress, has experienced experi-enced a change of heart and will support sup-port the women when the matter conies up in the senate. As the resolution, which has already passed the house, is now certain to carry, it is .probable that several other senators will climb into the bandwagon before it is too late. Even .the southern Democrats w:ho would restrict tho ballot to white women will find it worse than useless to continue their opposition and may fall into line in "order to be on the winning win-ning side. Those who remain obdurate to tho last will doubtless encounter the opposition of the womrfn the next time they come up for election, and some of them will most certainly be defeated. Senator Johnson of California will succeed suc-ceed Jones of New Mexico as chairman chair-man of the senate woman suffrage committee, and no doubt the measure will be reported as soon as tho Republicans Repub-licans organize the upper chamber of congress, which they will certainly do in the course of the next few days. In fact, such organization has been partially par-tially completed. All that remains to be done is to settle the fight on Penrose Pen-rose and Warren and announce the maksup of the committees and tho chairmen thereof. But, no matter how the battle over the chairmanships turns out, tho suffrage resolution will come up very soon and the long struggle for equal rights will be won. |
