The l second annual Ashton-Wdlow-j -& stone dog team race will be held on March 3. The one held a year ifgo proved such a huge success that a permanent organization has been effected to promote the event yearly. Aihton and vicinity are "up on their toes" over the coming event. Intense rivalry has developed among the various dog team owners, trainers, drivers and admirers of the different contestants. As there will be eight or ten tcamsl and from five to seven dogs to a team, it can easily be imagined that the race will be a lively one. One team of five dogs is composed of thoroughbred thor-oughbred Irish setters, another team of shepherds, another of Airedales and still others of "just dogs." each owner claiming both speed and endurance for his string of favorites. The course of the race this year has been changed from that of last year, which was from Yellowstone station in the Yellowstone park to Ashton via the O. S. L. right of way. A fierce bliz-xard. bliz-xard. accompanied by several feet of new fallen snow- on the day of the race severely iuterierred with the time ot running, and as a result the finish was extended into the second day. The course this ivear will extend west from Ashton for several miles, then south to the ait I.ake-Yellowstoue highway and along the highway back to Ashton. covering a distance ot" about twenty niiles. This will insure the ra"e being fast and still of sufficient length to try out to the fullest extent the stamina of each irivor and team. The usual ski races will be in evidence evi-dence .is well as a free for all boy-dog, 'ace Last vear the latter event was a free for all COO-yard da-h. There were tifteen entries in the race ami at one time there were fifteen dogs ill one ti"ht, each little owner trying to get his pets out of tin- fray and to get going a "a in. , Ti e usual cash prizes will be awarded. There will be. rates in effect over the O. S. L. A large crowd is expected te attend. |
