Show & YOUTH IS IN EVIDENCE ' ' IN SALT LAKE CLUB LIFE i ACOXFKBEXCE of hij-ti school girls of the state of Utah, im.ler the direction of the Y. , A., looking to the establishment of the Uirls' Patriotic Patri-otic league in Salt Lake, which has been in session since .Friday evening at the First Presbyterian church, will close this afternoon witli a girls' rntriotie j rally. Today will -be go-to-church day l'or Salt Lake high school girls, and the ministers of all churches of the city will touch upon giris' work and responsibilities, respon-sibilities, especially in connection with the war, in their sermons this morning. The patriotic rally idea, which involves in-volves the signing of a patriotic pledge, is growing in strength each day throughout the Vnited States. It now numbers 200,000 members. The pledge iuvolves one of patriotism and of obligations obli-gations to the small duties of each day. which go to make up well rounded living and service to humanity. The league is not a separate organization, but any girls' society may take the pledge. A unique feature opened the conference confer-ence in the way of a campfire in the basement of the church. A genuine campfiie was arranged ami stories were told and appropriate refreshments were served as the girls gathered around the fire. A business session yesterday was presided pre-sided over by Miss lary Martin of the Xew Jersey academy of Logan. Addresses Ad-dresses were mode by Miss Elvira Slack and Miss Elizabeth Magee of Denver, secretaries in the student department of the national Y. AV. C. A. Miss Gertrude Ger-trude Prack, girls' work secretary of the local Y. YV. C. A., also talked, and a general discussion followed oti tire theme of "Girls' responsibility in Connection Con-nection 'With the ,'ar. " A buncp.et was given last night. A number of girls from outside colleges col-leges were in attendance, and pupils of the East and AYest high schools, 'Westminster 'West-minster anil Rowland Hall took part in the conference. The opening of the conference con-ference on AVasliingtm 's birthday was appropriate, inasmuch as its object is a patriotic one. |
