Official announcement of the appointment ap-pointment by the government of II. C. Xutt, general manager of the Los Angeles An-geles & Salt Lake Railroad company, as deputy director general of Ameri- can railroads in France, has been re-' ceived in Salt Lake from President W. A. Clark of the Salt Lake Route. The official announcement reached . the local offices of the Short Line yesterday, yes-terday, and is the first definite information infor-mation to be received here as to what position Mr. Xutt will occupy with the government. It was known some time ago that : Mr. Xutt had been offered a commission commis-sion by The government in conneeTion wirh railroad work in France, but the information reaching here was meager, and no idea was given as to what line 1 of duties the government desired the manager of the Salt Lake Jioute to assume. The position for which Mr. X'utt has been chosen is one of the most important impor-tant within the gift of the government, and is of prime import to the government govern-ment in the winuiiitr of the great world war. Mr. Xutt will be second in command com-mand in the matter of handling of the American railroads in France in the position to. which he has been called. Selection of Mr. Xutt for this important im-portant work is a high compliment to his ability as a railroad man, and 13 looked upon by his fellow railroad officials of-ficials as a well-merited honor, lie has had years of experience, and they feel that no better sele.-tion could have been made for the important position. Temporarily Mr. Xutt will be succeeded suc-ceeded as general manager of the Salt Lake Route by W. II. Comstock, who has been secretary of the companv and has been clos'-ly associated with the darks for years past. I Ethel Tavlor. Mlrs Maud Tavlor.
