Show RIFLE SHOTS EN6AGE II ISM' WOi Are Finding Out Why They 0 Sometimes Flivver in Their Scores. The necessity for practice, and plenty of it, has been rather convincingly pointed point-ed out to those who would be crack shots with a rifle. Lately, among the members of the Salt Lake Rifle and Revolver club, there baa heen some discussion about tho possibility possi-bility that, even though practice is necessary, neces-sary, isn't there a danger of getting too much of overdoing th work and going "stale"? Sometimes it would seem that h"ro and there is a case of "practice" putting a man back instead of ahead, as where an expert, after shooting for several consecutive con-secutive weeks for a fine average, suddenly sud-denly finds himself shooting below par and for no apparent reason. Toward the end of finding out the why and the wherefore of such things, of resolving re-solving every element of target work to a scientific basis, of bringing the un- certainties under the control of absolute knowledge, the Salt Lake Rifle and Re- i vnlver club members are conducting some interesting experiments at their regular! setniweekly shoots, which promise to bear; fruit after a while in the way of increas- ; lng proficiency for all concerned and in enabling them to draft a code for rifle work that will prove of value to others in the same game. At any rate, cerlatn of the members have already benefited Immeasurably by "tricks of the trade" which are not supposed sup-posed to ho common knowledge and which they credit to this "research" work. Time only will tell what the permanent results are that accrue, but, nevertheless, things are getting interesting at these twice-a-week shoots, and one might hazard a guess that surprises are in store for those who follow tiie scores from week to week, anxious to see the Salt I-ake boyg take a leading position in this branch of sports. "Peep Sight" Lee pulled off a good one last Tuesday by shooting a couple of "possibles" in succession, a trick that require?, re-quire?, eye, nerve and skilL Frank ) locan, C. T. Ieti hfleld. Lee and Bob Ha rk ness all averaged 17 or better, and the rest weren't far behind. Tho coming week starts tho national matches, and this brand of shooting will be none too good, although It ought to rr.ake some of the other teams hustle if they want to stay in the running.
