Show ELKO SHALE OIL CO. IS INCORPORATED Distillation Plant Planned After the Extent of the Deposit Is Ascertained. Articles of incorporation of the Elko ! Shale Oil company have been filed I with the county clerk. This company 1 owns a lare acreage of oil shale land j within six miles of Elko, and they have what is believed to be the biggest and richest deposits in Nevada. On one quarter section in particular they have a veritable mountain of shale of paraffin par-affin base that contains phenomenal values in oil and by-products. While the bodv has not been thoroughly explored, ex-plored, hundreds of thousands of tons are in sight, and mining men who have seeu it confidently believe that the tonnage ton-nage will run high in the millions. Unlike other deposits in this section which lie nn an incline, this shale lies flat. A shaft has been started to determine de-termine the depth of the bodv and it is in solid shale a little less than thirty feet. The only difference, between the surface showings and the bottom is that the bottom is richer in oil content and other by-products. An old well that was sunk eighteen years ago to a depth of ;7j feet indicates that the shale goes to that depth at least, and the quality remains unchanged. The average run of oil from this shale is about sixty gallons to the ton, although select samples have run higher than ninety gallons. The writer recently witnessed a test in which two and oiie half ounces of oil was taken from eight and one-half ounces of shale. About 30 per cent of this is paraffin, par-affin, and there is from fifteen, to twenlv pounds of ammonia sulphate to the ton. While the company proposes to eventually even-tually put up a plant for the extraction of (lie oil and refining it, the first step will be to del ermine definitely tbo extent ex-tent of the bodv. The shaft will be pushed down at 'least lO'i feet, and if the shale continues to that depth with the quality unchanged, it will justify a plant of l'l" tons a day, for there wilL be eiiou::h shale to keep it in operation I for a lifetime.
