Show T OWNERS' SERVICE I DEPARTMENT Y"hat is the objection to fecSinj two kinds of fuel to the encne at the same time? 1 mean this: Suppos" the ordinary ordi-nary earbureter feeds rem.-.r caso- j line, but in reduced quantity, and then an outside device is used to force in a verv low grade fuel. Po you think j snch an arrangement possible? Jamie- j son. I Certainly, and furthermore, if I am j not mistaken, there are a few Anieri- i can and foreign patents which cover just such an arrangements. In a recent re-cent one in America an entirely different dif-ferent engine is used. The scheme probably works out by having the good gasoline mixture ignite and the flame propagation is fast enough to catch the whole mixture. The scheme cer-tainlv cer-tainlv has merit, as it would cut down t he amouDt of good gasoline used. Did you ever hear of a ring slap? What is it aud does it mean anything? John. A ring slap is caused by a- loose piston pis-ton ring slapping against its groove. The sound is a very faint metallic one and hardly is audible to any except an expert mechanical ear. In very good practice the maker watches for even these smaller things, but in ordinary or-dinary work no atteution is paid to ring slaps. I am nsing a Willard 12-volt battery, given as manufacturer's equipment in my touring car. The battery has a cracked cell and at the servico station I was told that repairing it would not be a safe undertaking. I have an opportunity op-portunity to buy cheaply another bat-terv bat-terv of the ame kind, which has been little used, but do not wish to dincard the present one until it is completely cone. Would thero be any danger to the lighting system in using both batteries, bat-teries, especially if a sporlight were added to the equipment of the car! Anv advantages or disadvantages to the' plan! Also. I am told that the Dodge rear wheels are overloaded under un-der the weight of the body alone without with-out pas.-engcrs when .".2x:!',i tires are used. Am advised oversied tires should bo used for best results. Can you tel! (1) the weight of an emptv Dodge on its rear wheels; (C) the normal nor-mal weight that standard .'jJx.'Hj tires under 70' pound pressure are made to carry? Jf oversized tires are ued. are larger inner tubes necessary? A. G. Ii. There is no objection to connecting two good batteries in series to- get the required voltage, Imt you should consider two things: First, with two volts per cell, you will get considerably consider-ably more voltage than is permissible, if all cells are good, and seconillv, if a jar is cracked it cuts out that cell. If th'i battery has three cells and the middle one is empty the battery is "open," and you will get no re-ults at all. You can take both batteries and wire up in series those, cells which aro good, but bo snre, you get the voltage you require and not more than eight for a six-volt system and fourteen four-teen for a twelve. (1) The weight over the rear wheels of the empty Dodge touring ear is approximately ap-proximately 1200 pounds. The aver-ago aver-ago .'Jllx.l'j tire under seventy poun.Ts is made to carry from 500 to 600 pounds, depending on the make and type of casing. The maker of the tire i.-snes a small booklet giving the inflation in-flation pressure and carrying capacity at that, pressure. (2) If oversize tires are need, the tubes should be changed, ftlso. What canoes a short, sharp hissing sound as each cylinder fires? In it caused by leakv piston rings .' Chas. Mueller. hiss of any kind indicates gns being be-ing forced through a small opening, and in your case it might bo an air or mixture leak.
