Show JOIE RAY BIG SHOW AT MILLROSE MEET NEW YORK, Jan. 23. Jole W. Ray of the Illinois A. C, Chicago, was the most ; prominent athlete at the big indoor meet- ! ing held by the Millrose A. C, at Madison ! Square Garden here tonight. He dupli- cated his victory of twelve months ago in the same arena when he finished the one and one-half mile special race half a lap in front of George L Otis, University of Chicago, and Clyde J. Stout from Fort Wayne aviation camp. Ray's time, 6:57 4-5, is exactly 11 seconds sec-onds behind the record he established a year ago. Ray continued until he had completed two miles in 9:22, which is 10 2-5 seconds slower than the time he made when he beat John Overton here last year at the New York A. C. games. The first winner of the night to pass the judges was Abel R. Kiviat, former national na-tional champion miler and erstwhile holder oi the world's 1500 metre record, who finished fin-ished easily in front of the big field which started in the 1000 yards run for enlisted men. Kiviat showed in front after running run-ning third for half the distance and then beat W. F. Gordon, the Metropolitan mile champion, try fully 20 yards in the good time of 2:24 1-5. The one mile relay race for army and navy teams resulted in a hot finish between be-tween Howard F. Berry, University of Pennsylvania and Tom Halpin of the Boston Bos-ton A. A., who were anchormen on the Camp Dix and Boston naval reserve teams, respectively. Berry beat his man by about two yards at the finish.
