Show LUXBURG INSANE. Count Karl von Ltixburg, former German Ger-man minister to the Argentine Republic, Repub-lic, has developed signs of insanity and been placed under restraint. The exposure of his correspondence with tho officials of the imperial government at Berlin, the Swedish foreign office being used as the medium of communication, commu-nication, put an end to German machinations machi-nations in South America and to the career of Count von Luxburg as well. The Germans were playing for high stakes down there, much higher, we believe, be-lieve, than is generally known, and as Luxburg was the chief instrument of the conspiracy, his failure, the contempt con-tempt into which he has fallen and the rage he has aroused in Germany for being caught seem to have unhinged his .mind. Von Bernstorff also failed, but the exposure of his gross breach of neutrality and criminal conspiracy does not appear to have affected his cynical cyni-cal mind, for he is back in Europe aiding aid-ing the 'kaiser to keep down the liberal lib-eral sentiment in tho German empire. Luxburg could not face the burning scorn of tho world outside of Germany, and he dared not go home. According to his physicians, slight hopes are entertained for his recovery. Perhaps it is just as well that he will pass into the great beyond with his mind clouded in passing, for his last moments would certainly be troubled by thoughts of the treacherous part he had played and a realization of the retribution retri-bution in store for tho German empire. |
